The Woman with the Alabaster Box

What's In A Name?
Juanita Ware

On our study of Women of the Bible, we see that JESUS, has such a compassion for women.  Similar to the women in the Bible, who were outcasted, talked about, and doomed to harsh judgement, JESUS CHRIST, in contrary, embraced, defended, and declared her forgiven.  Now in my effort, to do greater works, JESUS CHRIST ordained me to do, it’s HIS love I desire to mimic.  In all my getting, I hope to get a full revelation of the width, depth, strength, and power of HIS love.  JESUS, healing the woman with the Alabaster Box, gave great testimony of the love of JESUS.  HIS love is regardless of your name, sin, or the judgement man believe you deserve.
Unlike many of the women we read about in the Bible such as: Mary, Mary Magdalene, Esther, Rebecca, or Ruth, the Woman with the Alabaster Box name is omitted. Unsure how it was in the biblical days, but omitting a name today can get you unfriended and blocked.  Everybody want to be specifically named and recognized.  Names at times can be a distraction, it can at times take the focus off JESUS and place it on the other person. If we aren’t careful, we can also desire to share the glory with JESUS, when in true reality, the glory is really ALL for JESUS, and for JESUS alone.  The most fascinating thing to me with the omission of her name is that 2,000 plus years later, the Woman with the Alabaster Box is simply known by her gift.  Shouldn't that be our true intentions, that our gift bring glory to JESUS name 2,000 years from now.   Instead of trying to make our names known, we change our motives to make HIS name known .  And if we become like the woman with the Alabaster Box unapologetic, unmoved, and unstoppable as we pursue CHRIST and become unconcern, unshakeable, and unmessable with, our gifts too can minister long after we are gone.
Secondly, her sin was never listed.  The Bible simply stated, she lived a sinful life.  It was no relevance  whether she was a liar, lesbian, or full of lust.  No importance. Now, we as people categorize sin, and compare sins.  Not JESUS.  I am so grateful her sin wasn’t listed, because it gives us an opportunity to input our own shortcomings.  Again it keeps the focus on JESUS, takes the focus off the problem, and keeps our focus fixed on the promise.  So whether, your problems are  kids, crack, cancer or plain crazy, the answer is JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, JESUS!
My absolute favorite part of this story is JESUS attended to her publicly.  HE  forgave her in the presence of HIS friends and her accusers.  So not only is JESUS, lover, healer, deliverer, forgiver, comforter, defender, but HE is also restorer.  JESUS could’ve taken her to the bathroom, the basement, or out back.  JESUS could’ve just forgave her, instead HE loved her back publicly.  In doing this HE gave her back her self esteem, self respect, and her self worth. Without restoring her, she could’ve spent the rest of her life, convincing others she isn't that sinful woman she used to be.  Just like the Woman with the Alabaster Box JESUS doesn't just want to save us only , HIS plan is to make us whole again.
So like the woman with the Alabaster Box, let us too come aggressively to JESUS daily , offering up our gifts, that we too may be eternally blessed.

Bible references: Luke 7:36-50
